Client Experience

My view is that everyone who walks through my door wants to improve their life in some way, so I aim to ensure your sessions are guided by what you would like to achieve from them.

Whether it is sitting with you and listening to your concerns, assisting in your healing, or helping you to thrive in your life’s journey, my aim is to provide you with a safe, comfortable, and empowering environment.

Whilst you are always living you are always learning, and this is all ok. This is about you, your life and your journey.

Counselling Approach

There is no set level of distress you ‘should be able to cope with’. We all differ from each other in so many unique ways. This is how I approach your sessions and acknowledge the importance of meeting you as you are, in your experience.

I primarily work from a humanistic-existential approach although I also incorporate elements of SFBT, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Creative Expression.

My approach is to work with you to gain clearer insight and meaning in your life and empower you to make choices informed by this.

I try to ensure my clients feel seen and heard, that I create a hopeful, holding space for them to delve into the concerns that led them to counselling. Being Client-Centred I want to ensure they experience a permissive, non-judgemental and empathic space (a safe base) where insights can arise and difficult issues can be unpacked and explored.

Therapeutic Approach

I work from a relational framework. For me, rapport and connection are crucial in creating safety and containment. I use an Attachment-informed and Client-Centred approach. Psycho-education, Mindfulness and other Self-Regulatory tools are also incorporated into my work.

Counselling Services

Client Experience

First and foremost I want my client to know that in the session I have heard them, and maybe it may be the first time someone has heard them.

I endeavour to make sure that the client leaves a counselling session with many tools and strategies for the issue that is aired in counselling.

Plus, I try to ensure for  most part  that individuals and couples leave the session maybe understanding for the first time knowing where they came from.

What I mean by this is: We all come from a family or origin and I want my clients to understand in many many cases that the issues that they have bought them to counselling probably started right back there in their family of origin. This being said, now that they are adults it is up to them to learn how to unlearn these behaviours or learn how to manage them.

Therapeutic Approach

I try to be approachable and easy to talk to about anything – even the hard things!

I use real terms when explaining things, not clinical terms.

I am honest with my clients, with the way they are presenting themselves – and I explain to them that the way I am seeing and hearing them, can be completely different to the way they visualise themselves presenting. This allows clients to reflect on how others in the family or community view them, and it may not be how they want to be represented.

Pam Bell has completed a Bachelor of Counselling at Notre Dame and furthered her training with a Diploma of Counselling (Institute of Human Development). In addition to this, Pam holds a Graduate Certificate of Mental Health Counselling (Notre Dame) and a Post Graduate Family and Relationship Training (William Street Family Therapy Centre) qualification. Counselling Services

Client Experience

I try to ensure that my clients feel respected and heard when being in session with me.

I also try to evoke a sense of agency, a sense of hope that maybe “yes, I actually can do something about THE PROBLEM and that  THE PROBLEM is not just happening to me but I can happen to THE PROBLEM too!”

Looking at exceptions and strengths is a big part of that as it opens our eyes to solutions that are already working. It instils confidence in our own ability and is a way of thinking that will be helpful in any situation that presents itself as difficult in the future.

I always try to ensure the client finds an as open as possible environment to talk freely about anything and feel comfortable and safe when discomfort arises.

My main aim during any session is that my clients take note of their own often extraordinary strengths and find or regain the trust in themselves to be able to get through difficult situations and come out strong and maybe a bit wiser on the other side.

Counselling Approach

My approach to working with any client coming to see me, be it a family, a couple or an individual is getting to know and understand each one of them and their unique perspective.

I will always invite discussion around context because I believe nothing exists in a vacuum. For example anxiety may exist in one context but not in another. Looking at the presenting concerns this way  allows me and my clients to investigate the ins and outs of what it is that brought them to counselling and how they would like it to be different.

I believe that the answers are often within my clients and it is my job to assist them in uncovering them through questions, exercises and open discussions. The same goes for looking at the context when the problem doesn’t exist. What is different then? Who is around? How does the family, couple, individual manage then? What makes it easier under those circumstances?

Finding the client’s strengths is a central part of my work as these are the tools readily available to the client to use to their advantage when dealing with a tricky or difficult situation.

When working with a client I will always check in to see how we are going and if what we are talking about is still relevant to the client’s goals they came to counselling for.

Susann Bruechle has a Diploma of Professional Counselling and Post Graduate Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy (Australia) and Rehabilitation Psychology Diplom (Germany).

Susann is a member of the Australian Counselling Association and registered with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Counselling Services

Client Experience

My aim is always for the person seeking help to feel that the room is theirs. Their worries are important and I take them seriously and their concerns are never too small or too big for me to hear.

My hope is that the person experiences me as someone who accepts and supports them without judgment and that for the time they are in the room with me, and after they have left, they feel really heard.

Therapeutic Approach

In my approach with people seeking help I always endeavour to be really present with them. To bear with them what they may not be able to bear alone and to walk with them as they discover what it is to be them. To allow them the space, time and focus that may be needed to develop self-understanding and insight into their particular difficulties, while supporting and encouraging them as they effect the change they want to see in themselves and their lives.

Client Experience

I appreciate that clients often seek out therapy at their most vulnerable and therefore I ensure to create a safe and warm environment, where they can feel heard, respected and validated. By ‘holding space’ in a non-judgemental, caring and compassionate capacity, clients can explore and work through their concerns.

I believe that the determining factor in effective therapy is the client and therapist relationship. Therefore, I take extra care to ensure that the client feels safe and comfortable. I strongly believe that collaboration in therapy empowers the client to achieve their goals and move through difficulties, feeling more equipped.

My approach to working with clients is one of genuine compassion, gentleness and authenticity. I endeavour to form a trusting therapeutic relationship with clients in order to explore challenging issues as well collaborate together. I adopt an integrative approach whereby through listening and discussion I am able to ascertain what best suits the client’s needs.

Central to my approach is strength finding. I encourage clients to empower themselves through their own demonstrated strengths past or present, and assist them in understanding their reactions and behaviours, helping them in making changes where they would like.
