Healthy relationship communication is needed in any relationship if it is to flourish, however it may be even more important in couple relationships.
Communication interactions such as,
- Listening
- Understanding
- Accepting differing views
- Staying calm
can all help to make your relationship happier and help both of you to feel heard, respected and understood.
If, however communication is not functioning well in your relationship you may find you and your partner having arguments and not feeling that your point is getting across to your partner and vice versa! Leaving issues unresolved may result in feelings of anxiety and low mood, further affecting your relationship in a negative way.
If you and your partner find yourselves having difficulties with your communication methods, don’t panic – there is a lot available to help you improve these skills. The internet has a great deal of information on this topic and there are also some great books available.
However if you feel you need a personal touch, a relationship counsellor can help you improve your communication skills. To discuss your situation or find out more about Perth relationship counselling or individual counselling services, please contact us.
